Rhode Island Sales Tax Exemption Setup for Corporation

Charitable, educational, and religious organizations may be exempt from sales tax on qualifying purchases and can file an Application/Renewal for Certificate of Exemption for an Exempt Organization from the Rhode Island Sales and Use Tax (Form EXO-SUE) with the Division of Taxation.

    Download and complete the Certificate of Exemption for an Exempt Organization from the Rhode Island Sales and Use Tax (Form EXO-SUE).

  2. Submit the Certificate of Exemption for an Exempt Organization

    Mail the completed Certificate of Exemption for an Exempt Organization and the $25 fee to the Division of Taxation.

Rhode Island Sales Tax Setup for PLLC, Professional Corporation, LLP, LLC, Corporation

If you sell tangible personal property, products transferred electronically, or services for storage, use, or consumption in Rhode Island, you are required to register with the Rhode Island Division of Taxation to collect and pay sales tax. If you are an out-of-state entity with at least 200 transactions or $100,000 in Rhode Island sales for the current or previous calendar year, you have nexus for the purpose of sales tax. A permit must be obtained before making sales by filing the Business Application and Registration (BAR) Form. A permit is required for each location and must be renewed annually.

    Register for sales tax by filing the Business Application and Registration (BAR) Form online. If you previously registered for withholding and unemployment insurance using the BAR Form and did not register for sales tax, please call the RI Employer Tax Section at 401-574-8700 (Option 1).

Rhode Island Sales Tax Reporting for PLLC, Professional Corporation, LLP, LLC, Corporation

Generally, a retailer must file a Sales and Use Tax Return every month, by the 20th, to report and pay the tax due from the previous calendar month's sales. Even if a seller has made no sales, a return must be filed listing zero sales and taxes. If the sales tax liability for six consecutive months has averaged less than $200 per month, a business can apply to the Tax Administrator for quarterly filing.
