Pennsylvania Sales Tax License Registration

How to get a Pennsylvania Sales Tax License

Pennsylvania Sales Tax Setup for LLC, LLP, Corporation

You must register for a sales tax license if selling taxable products or services in Pennsylvania (including digital products). You have physical nexus for sales tax purposes if you maintain a place of business in Pennsylvania (as defined in 61 Pa. Code § 56.1). If you have at least $100,000 in gross sales into Pennsylvania in a calendar year, you have economic nexus for sales tax purposes. If you sell products through a marketplace (e.g., Amazon, eBay), your marketplace facilitator is required to collect sales tax on any sales into Pennsylvania. Such sales do not count towards the $100,000 threshold. Note: SaaS is considered a taxable service in Pennsylvania. Tax-exempt organizations must register for a sales tax license if they are selling tangible personal property or services.

    If you haven't already, create an myPATH account in order to file and pay taxes online.

  2. Submit Pennsylvania Online Business Tax Registration

    Log in to your myPATH account. Submit a business tax registration to set up a Sales & Use Tax account. Upon registration, you will receive an 8-digit Sales Tax account number.

Pennsylvania Purchase Sales Tax Exemption Setup for Corporation

Certain nonprofits are able to make tax free purchases on behalf of the entity’s charitable purpose by registering through the myPATH Pennsylvania Tax Hub portal or by filing an Application for Sales Tax Exemption (Form REV-72). If approved, the Department of Revenue will issue the organization a Sales Tax Exemption Certificate that is valid for five years. Note: Exempt organizations must provide vendors with a completed Pennsylvania Exemption Certificate (Form REV-1220) when making eligible tax-free purchases.

  1. Submit a Sales Tax Exemption Application Online

    Log in to your myPATH Pennsylvania Tax Hub portal. Then select the "More..." tab and click "Sales Tax Exemption Application" to complete the application online.

Pennsylvania Purchase Sales Tax Exemption Renewal for Corporation

Nonprofits must renew their Sales Tax Exemption Certificate by filing an Application for Sales Tax Exemption (Form REV-72) or an Institution of Purely Public Charity Renewal Affidavit (Form REV-956) with the Department of Revenue, every five years.

Pennsylvania Sales Tax Return for LLC, LLP, Corporation

For the first year of business, your sales tax filing frequency will be quarterly. After that, your filing frequency for the next year will be determined by the Department of Revenue every November based on your Q3 tax return: if you reported less than $75 in sales tax in Q3, your filing frequency will be semi-annual next year; if you reported less than $600, your filing frequency will be monthly next year; businesses with larger tax liability have to file monthly and may be subjected to additional payment and filing requirements.
