Maine Sales Tax Exemption Setup for Corporation

Maine only provides specific exemptions for organizations such as hospitals, schools, churches and libraries. Qualifying nonprofit organizations must submit the relevant application to Maine Department of Revenue Services and provide the information and documents specified in the application. The requirements for exempt status vary depending on the particular exemption being applied for.

  2. File Sales Tax Exemption Application

Businesses are required to register for applicable sales, use, or service provider tax when gross revenue in Maine of tangible personal property, products transferred electronically, or taxable services in the previous or current calendar year exceeds $100,000 or 200 separate transactions. Nonprofits that do not qualify for sales tax exemptions are required to register to applicable sales, use, or service provider taxes.

Maine Sales, Use and Service Provider Tax Report for LLP, LLC, Corporation

Businesses with at least $100 per month, but less than $600 must file returns quarterly. Businesses with less than $100 per month, more than $50 per year file semi-annually. Finally, businesses with tax liability less than $50 must file one return each year. Note: Maine offers specific exemptions to some nonprofit organizations. Nonprofits that do not qualify for sales tax exemptions are required to report the applicable sales, use, and service provider taxes.
