Businesses that sell goods or services are responsible for collecting, reporting, and remitting sales and use tax. A foreign business has nexus in Iowa if it has a physical presence in Iowa. Iowa, like most states, provides a list of activities that requires an out-of-state retailer to register and collect taxes. Out-of-state retailers must collect taxes if they have either $100,000 or more in gross revenue from Iowa sales, or 200 or more separate transactions for an immediately preceding calendar year or current calendar year.
