Arizona Transaction Privilege Tax (Sales Tax) License for Corporation, LLP, LLC

Arizona imposes a Transaction Privilege Tax (TPT), which is equivalent to a sales tax and is based on gross proceeds and gross income derived from a vendor’s activities. Businesses are required to file for a TPT license if they sell a product or engage in a service subject to this tax in the state. The vendor is liable for the tax, regardless of whether or not the vendor passes on the economic burden of the tax to the customer. Cities often impose their own TPT which is administered and collected by the Arizona Department of Revenue, so no additional license applications are required. Licenses are valid for a calendar year and must be renewed annually. Note: Some 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations under specific categories may qualify for exemption from TPT automatically and should retain records of their tax-exempt status. Additionally, some business transactions are considered exempt from TPT on purchases made and require the purchaser to complete Transaction Privilege Tax Exemption Certificate (Form 5000) and give to the seller at the time of sale.
