Arizona Transaction Privilege Tax (Sales Tax) License for PLLC, Professional Corporation, LLP, LLC, Corporation

Arizona imposes a Transaction Privilege Tax (TPT), which is equivalent to a sales tax and is based on gross proceeds and gross income derived from a vendor’s activities. Businesses are required to file for a TPT license if they sell a product or engage in a service subject to this tax in the state. The vendor is liable for the tax, regardless of whether or not the vendor passes on the economic burden of the tax to the customer. Cities often impose their own TPT which is administered and collected by the Arizona Department of Revenue, so no additional license applications are required. Licenses are valid for a calendar year and must be renewed annually.

Businesses that are subject to the Transaction Privilege Tax (TPT) must file the Transaction Privilege, Use, and Severance Tax Return (Form TPT-2) whether or not they have any sales. Businesses with more than one location or that have an annual TPT liability of more than $500 during the prior calendar year are required to file and pay electronically at AZTaxes.gov. The filing schedule depends on the estimated annual combined Arizona, county and municipal Transaction Privilege Tax liability: less than $2,000 must file annually, between $2,000 and $8,000 must file quarterly, and more than $8,000 must file monthly.
